Learning Differences with Devon Review

Students with learning differences can achieve great results in both the academic classroom as well as on standardized tests. It all comes down to understanding the best way to present and retain the information. With a personalized approach, the student’s instructor understands the best way a student can process and understand the material.

When we approach standardized tests such as the SAT/ACT/ISEE/SSAT, it is important that students understand how having extra time can benefit them and incorporate strategies to make the best use of the time.

Since each student learns in a different way, our curriculum and teaching style is modified to the best fit for a favorable outcome. We will teach more strategies or illustrate ways to improve time-management skills. Understanding the background of a student’s diagnosis such as having ADHD or Dyslexia helps our team develop actionable outcomes.

Working on executive functioning skills is a critical piece of a student’s education. Learning these foundational skills and incorporating them into a daily routine can help students work toward achieving better grades in their academic courses. If a student has a routine or a system that has been working (or at least some parts) we try to build upon those skills.

Study skills and time management skills are also important. We like students to see a task such as an essay or an SAT/ACT test not as one huge assignment or big test that is overwhelming but as smaller pieces that can be achieved by going in a very organized a step-by-step manner. Listening to the student about what works and what hasn’t worked makes the process easier.

Our select group of tutors wants students with learning differences to feel good about school and learning. We look forward to helping your son or daughter achieve their academic goals and test prep success.
